Ska originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and combines elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. Characterized by a walking bass line, upbeat tempo, offbeat guitar rhythms, and prominent horn sections. In the UK, Ska underwent a revival in the late 1970s with 2 Tone, led by bands like Madness and The Specials. This era saw Ska blend with punk and new wave elements, creating a unique sound that captivated audiences.
